396 HISTORY OF JACKSON COUNTY. ================================== who, unlike many of the early settlers, had spent his youth in search- ing for knowledge. He had through life overcome every obstacle and by his own unaided efforts, attained to positions of honor and trust, Jackson County was still a part of Washington. Mr. Graham was elected to the Territorial Legislature, and in 1816 was a member of the first constitutional convention; after this he was prominent in the affairs of the State and county, and so faithfully had he performed every duty assigned that he was elected to Congress during the administration of Martin Van Buren. It is said of him, that during all his years of public service he never once betrayed the confidence of the of the people, or failed in the performance of any duty.
