L-R: S.M. Hotchkiss, son Hartley Hotchkiss and probably William Ball at the Hotchkiss-Ball Peach and Apple Orchard, east of Brownstown, Indiana, south at the top of the Slygo Hill. Pictured is the specially weighted Fordson tractor used to cultivate the trees which got upset. A September 12, 1923, advertisement in the Brownstown Banner notes: Apples are very scarce this year. We have 150 bushels of very good “Grimes Golden”, nice, clean, well sprayed apples, at the residence of S.M. Hotchkiss.... Price $1, $1.50 and $2.00 per bushel....”
